Miami, Fla. | “Raiders Blow Past Tornadoes”

Florida Man Sports is back with Week 10 coverage of the South Florida high school football season! There are only 2 weeks left until the playoffs. Teams are scratching, clawing and fighting to get into the show. It’s going to be exciting! Tonight we had a showdown between the Ransom Everglades Raiders and the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes. Ransom has had an up-and-down season after the departure of 2028 QB Neimann Lawrence, with a 4-4 record, but came into this game on a 2 game winning streak after two straight blowout wins against Miami Springs and NSU. Booker T. has had a tough season, at 2-7, in what is clearly a rebuilding, transitional year. But they have competed more recently, with the last two games being close ones.

The Raiders got the ball to start the game. They got a slow, deliberate drive going through 2028 QB Matthew Guevara’s arm. He completed short catch and run opportunities for 2026 ATH Jack McCarron and 2028 ATH Hans Van de Creeke for first downs. Quality defense by 2026 LB Tyrel Snelling (TFL), 2026 DE Siah Hayward (TFL) and pressure by 2026 LB Tramaine Wallace on Guevara forced Ransom to settle for an early field goal. It was drilled by 2026 K Carlos Lavernia.

2029 WR Fred Frederic had a great return for the Tornadoes to set up good field position for Booker T. Some trickeration led to 2026 WR Darnell Wesby getting a first down. But a breakup by McCarron on 3rd down forced a punt. Once again Ransom deliberately drove down the field. Guevara connected with 2026 ATH Juan Velazco for a first down. When the Raiders got near the goal-line, Guevara found 2028 ATH Colton Smith on the one-yard line, who held on to the ball for a first down. Guevara, showing brutality, snuck in to make the lead 10-0.

Some quality defense took place after that. 2028 DB Finn McCarron recovered a fumble on a backwards pass. 2027 DE/LB Desmond Accius sacked Guevara and forced a 3 and out. 2026 DL Edwin Carr did the same for Ransom, sacking 2028 QB Wryan Jenkins. Guevara got the ball back and ran a QB draw. He evaded pretty much every tackler in his way, cruising into the endzone and giving Ransom a commanding 17-0 lead.

The Raiders quickly got the ball back after a nice INT by McCarron (Finn). The very next play, 2028 RB Noah Alce, making his return from injury, cut the corner, found a crease and dashed into the endzone to make the deficit 24. McCarron had another interception for Ransom on the VERY NEXT POSSESSION. This guy was a ballhawk tonight! 24-0 lead for the Ransom Raiders at the half.

Both ends of the ball for Ransom continued to dominate in the second half. McCarron (Jack, TFL) and 2027 LB Hunter White (sack) made plays. Guevara snuck in for another touchdown and then threw a 2-pt conversion to McCarron (Jack) to make the lead 32-0. 2027 K Alec Martinez-Bolivar hit a field goal to make it 35-0. White and 2029 ATH Evans Branch combined for another sack. And of course McCarron had a PBU to end the game. 35-0 final score, Ransom wins.

Ransom has some tantalizing prospects for the future. Alce, Branch, Guevara, and McCarron (Finn) all look like potential big time players for the Raiders. And they all have at least 2 years left of high school ball. Although Booker T. is inferior competition, this was still a very impressive performance by Ransom. They will finish the regular season with a game against Somerset Academy Key next week.

The tumultuous season ends for Booker T. After the departure of Tim “Ice” Harris, a lot of their players and coaches, they finished the season at 2-8. There is a lot of rebuilding that needs to be done at this program. Too many gadget and trick plays for them tonight. They need to simplify the game for themselves a bit. Play some smash mouth football. Get Jenkins out in space, let him make a play for the team. They will improve.

FINAL SCORE:
Ransom beats Booker T. 35-0

Florida Man Sports Co-Players of the Game:
