Miami, Fla. | “Chiefs Survive Against Spartans”
Florida Man Sports is back with more Week 6 coverage of the South Florida high school football season! Tonight we had a matchup between the Carol City Chiefs and the Monsignor Pace Spartans. The Chiefs came in at 2-2, and off of a close W against Carol Gables. Pace also came in at an identical record of 2-2, and coming off a close loss to Edison. This was likely to be a close contest.
The defenses got off to a great start in this game. 2027 DB Jerryson Jean-Baptiste had an early TFL for Carol City, with another by 2026 LB Daishaun Dorsett on the same drive. 2028 LB/DE Zakhari Johnson had a nice defensive play on the first drive to force a punt. The Chiefs have a big special teams problem; they have no kicker. Which led to a bad punt on the first drive.
After a combined effort by Dorsett and 2026 DE Jeremiah Haggins, Pace was faced with a 3rd and 25. Enter 2027 QB Korde Hinch. He made an incredible play, scrambling out of the pocket to find 2027 WR Jamaal Gibson Jr. for a touchdown. Gibson made a nice catch on his end as well.
Pace got it going again on their next offensive drive with a couple of screen passes from Hinch to shifty 2027 WR Jayden Govender. After some quality defense by 2027 DL/OL Danard Frazier and 2029 OL/DL Michael Williams Jr, the drive was thwarted. And it truly ended after Dorsett sacked Hinch, and 2029 DL Ben McFadden Jr. picked up the ball and had a huge return.
2028 QB Russell Britton got the Chiefs on the board with a nice touchdown dime to 2026 WR David Hall. But Carol City, (with no kicker) missed the extra point. 2028 WR Khanai “Jake” Grimes had a nice return of a punt after a Pace 3 and out, but Britton threw an errant pass that was picked out of the air by 2026 DB Jordan Wooden.
Hinch then put together a great, extended drive. He had first down passes to Govender and 2028 WR Tyler Bryant. Then he began to use his legs, running for 2 1st downs. 2027 DB Avier Jordan (PBU) and 2027 DL Tramaine Holland (batted ball) had some nice plays on defense, but Hinch found a wide open 2028 WR/DB Mykei Wade wide open in the endzone to give the Spartans a 14-6 lead going into the half.
Pace looked to take control in the beginning of the 3rd quarter. After a muffed punt that was recovered by 2026 DB Amor Coachman, the Spartans were in prime position to strike again. Frazier (sack) continued to make plays for the Chief defense. But Hinch used his legs once again, this time for a score to extend the lead out to 15 points. Unfortunately, Hinch appeared to hurt his hamstring on this touchdown, and did not return to the game.
The defenses took over again, with sacks by Frazier for Carol City, Johnson for Pace, and a TFL for 2026 DL Dennario “Scooter” Williams. Britton finally snapped out of it in the 4th quarter, with some incredible first down dimes to Hall and 2027 WR Rolaun Spain. 2026 RB Justin Compere got into the endzone for the Chiefs twice, on a touchdown and then a 2-point conversion, to cut the lead back down to 7.
And when the offense needed it, the defense got a stop for them. Dorsett and Frazier were making plays again. And Holland had another deflected pass that forced a punt. Britton locked right back in for the Chiefs. He delivered first down connections with 2026 WR Kevin “Kevo” Walker and 2027 WR Santana Blount. These were mixed in with a couple of huge penalties against the Pace defense.
Britton then took matters into his own hands, showing some speed around the edge and miraculously getting into the endzone to drop the lead down to 1 point. It was decision time. Time to tie or go for the win. They made the gutsy choice to go for the win. And they put it in the right guy’s hands. Compere is money near the goal-line and he showed it once again. He got around the edge and crashed into the endzone to give Carol City a lead with less than 40 seconds left. Absolutely stunning.
With backup 2027 QB Jordan Fernandez in for the Spartans, things appeared to be bleak. And reality set in, when the backup threw an interception into the waiting arms of 2027 DB Jashon “Chikko” Chaneton to seal the game for Carol City. Final score, Carol City 22, Pace 21.
Carol City with one of the gutsiest wins of the year. The craziest thing is that Britton didn’t even start this game. He came in and honestly put in a heck of a performance given the circumstances. Compere hit pay dirt when it mattered most. The defense led by Frazier, Dorsett, and Holland made plays time and time again. It truly appeared that they were out of this game. But they locked in and made the comeback happen. They will face off against South Miami next week.
As for Monsignor Pace, this game will be a tough pill to swallow. They really had the game in hand until Hinch got injured. The bright side for this team is that the majority of the players are young studs. That means they have room to grow. Look out for Johnson, Govender, and Wade, among others. They will have a good one next week on the road against Calvary Christian Academy.
FINAL SCORE:
Carol City beats Monsignor Pace 22-21
Florida Man Sports Player of the Game:
2026 RB Jordan Compere (Rush TD, 2 2-Point Conversions (including game winner) )
