Miramar, Fla. | “Bobcats Brave Hi-Tide Storm”

Florida Man Sports is back with more Week 9 coverage of South Florida high school football! We have another Monday Night Football special on deck tonight with a matchup between the Miami Beach Hi-Tides and the West Broward Bobcats. The Hi-Tides came in at 4-3, and off of 3 straight victories. West Broward, at 5-2, are also on a winning streak, their streak being at 4 straight, and with 3 blowout victories in a row to boot. The stakes were there tonight, and they were high.

The Bobcats defense was ferocious early on, as 2025 DB Matthew Martindale and 2026 LB Quincy Walker (TFLs) were making their presence felt. As 2025 QB Lucas Goenaga rolled out of the pocket for the Tides, Martindale ball-hawked his way to an interception. The West Broward rushing attack was absolutely dominant early on, with a dynamic lightning and thunder duo in 2027 RB Amos Bradford and 2025 RB Elijah DeWoskin carving through the Beach High defense.

Bradford, the lightning, had 3 first-down runs on the initial drive. 2025 QB Tyler Shattuck connected with 2027 WR Cedric Mitchell Jr. for a first down on the drive as well. DeWoskin crashed through the d-line with a jump cut and a burst up the middle for a first, and then got into the endzone to punctuate the dominant looking drive.

After Goenaga had a couple of first-down scrambles and a connection with 2025 WR/RB Russell Royce on a first down slip screen on the next Beach drive, an overthrown ball ended the attack with a turnover-on-downs. Shattuck (on a first-down connection with superstar 2025 WR and Miami commit Josh Moore) and DeWoskin kept the good times rolling on the next Bobcats drive, but 2025 ATH Mykel Nichols played lockup defense on Moore and intercepted an overthrown pass by the signal caller.

Momentum couldn’t be gained by the Beach offense, as the pressure of 2025 DLs Tristan Lewis and Evan Padron were too much for the offensive line to handle. Bradford with jukes and an Ashton Jeanty-like stance in the backfield was toying with the Hi-Tides defense, running for about 100 yards in the first half alone. 2026 ATH Christian Jones mixed in with a first-down rush of his own and then the big bruising DeWoskin ran in for his second touchdown of the night to make it 14-0 at the half.

In the second half, the passing attack got going as well, as Shattuck found Mitchell Jr. for a first down. Shattuck locked in on Mitchell Jr. again and broke the defense for a deep ball that essentially put the game out of reach with a 3-score lead. Lewis and Padron continued to shine on defense, making play after play to have Goenaga in a frenzy. DeWoskin got his 3rd touchdown in the 3rd quarter as well. Martindale added another interception with some thundering hits to go along with them. As did 2028 ATH A’mir Sears with a pick that he stole right out of the hands of Nichols. 2026 K Trace Poncev made it 31-0 with a field goal.

Goenaga and 2025 ATH/QB Dylan Pelliccio (as time expired) ran in for late consolation touchdowns, and the final score was 37-6.

West Broward looks like a force. At 6-2 now, Shattuck didn’t have to do much tonight but still had a solid night while making some bad mistakes as well (interceptions to Nichols and 2027 DB Nasir Johnson). Those running backs were absolutely dominant tonight. DeWoskin and Bradford are great complements for one another. DeWoskin is a bruiser, while Bradford is smooth as butter with his moves. Moore didn’t even have to play much after the first half, and his counterpart on the other side in Mitchell Jr. is a player with a lot of potential to get even better.

And let’s give a hand to that defense. Martindale, Padron, and Lewis really showed out tonight. And we didn’t even mention 2026 DB and Toledo commit Shmar Akande, who is a lockdown corner who barely had the ball thrown in his direction tonight. The Bobcats will face off against Krop on the road on Friday. I guess cats aren’t afraid of water.

As for the Hi-Tides, this was a pretty disappointing performance given the positive momentum of this program. Goenaga was panicked all night, and had to tuck and run time and time again. He took a lot of punishment if I’m being honest. Nichols and Royce showed flashes tonight, and they are quality players. As is 2025 LB Juan Zuluaga. There needs to be improvement in the trenches, on both sides. It was a bit of a rough watch tonight. They will look to go over .500 again on Friday afternoon against Palm Glades Prep Academy in what will be a much more favorable matchup for them.

FINAL SCORE:
West Broward beats Miami Beach 37-6
