Homestead, Fla. | “Bucs Swashbuckle Generals”
Florida Man Sports is back with Week 9 coverage of the South Florida high school football season. Tonight we had a matchup between the Jackson Generals and the South Dade Buccaneers. The Generals, at 4-3, were coming off of a shutout victory against St. Brendan last Friday. South Dade, coming in at 3-4, was coming off of a blowout win at home on the road last week against Miami High.
Jackson started the game by driving the ball down the field, but lost the ball on a fumble forced by 2026 DL Jamie Freeney. South Dade then drove the ball right down the field following the turnover, with a couple of nice catch-and-runs from 2026 WR/DB Montrey Jackson. The Bucs were led on most of the drive by 2025 QB/WR X’Zayvion Clayton being the signal caller, but eventually 2026 ATH Jean Calixte punched the ball in on a quarterback draw.
2026 QB Brandin Mincy tried to get the Generals going on the next drive, but on the first play from scrimmage, 2025 DL Kentrell Davis batted a ball and it was intercepted by 2027 DL Victor Guerrero. Clayton then connected with 2025 WR/RB Jakari Blackman a touchdown a couple short plays after that to extend the lead to 13-0 halfway through the first stanza. The South Dade defensive line stood out tonight, with some fantastic contributions by Davis, Guerrero, Freeney, 2026 DL Mike Harris, and 2027 DL Brandon Howard. Guerrero had a safety on a tackle for loss that brought the lead out to 15-0. Jackson and 2028 WR/DB Quartavius Lyons added interceptions in the first half.
In the second quarter on the goal-line, Calixte found two-way star 2026 ATH and Florida State commit Tedarius Hughes on a dart to extend the lead to over 20 points. The Bucs never looked back after this, dominating both side of scrimmage. Clayton was composed as the quarterback, making several highlight plays with his arm and legs. He found Blackman for a bomb in the 3rd quarter.
The South Dade running game also showed up late as well, after Jackson had an interception and a huge return. 2027 RB’s Jayden Shropshire and Malachi Cruz added second half touchdowns that padded the Bucs’ blowout lead. 2025 ATH Dewayne Roberts had a 70-yard touchdown in the 4th quarter that allowed Jackson to avoid the embarrassment of a shutout.
The final score of this game: South Dade 43, Jackson 6. For the South Dade Buccaneers, they get back to .500 on the season with back to back wins. Albeit a winnable game, the Bucs were impressive tonight. It appears that the offense is much more explosive with Clayton as the signal caller, although Calixte had some good moments at the helm tonight as well. The running game was free-flowing, and the receiving corps has real talent stacked, with Jackson, Hughes, and Blackman showing out tonight. The trenches controlled all aspects tonight, with the Bucs’ o-line consistently winning their matchups and the d-line being an absolute wrecking crew. They often forced Mincy to make brutal decisions that costed their team a chance to win the game. They have a good chance to win again in their next matchup at home against Coral Gables next Thursday.
As for the Jackson Generals, after a shutout victory, this game was nothing short of embarrassing. Mincy was under constant pressure, and given the score, he was actually replaced in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Defense was missing tackles early and often. And I hate to say it for such a storied program, but there was an overall lack of discipline. I have to give it to Roberts, as he played a vast majority of the plays in the game, on offense, defense, and special teams, and was making plays in all three facets. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like his message carried on to the rest of the team. They will go up against Key West next Friday night at home.
FINAL SCORE:
South Dade beats Miami Jackson 43-6
